City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

There is always so much riding on the last book in a series. And for me, I've been reading The Mortal Instruments since 2009; so I had a lot of time and love riding on this finale.

City of Heavenly Fire absolutely did not disappoint.

To be honest, I knew that it had to end with a battle with Sebastian, but I had no idea how it was going to come about. So as I read, each chapter was interesting and surprising and kept me reading. It took me a while to read the first 150 pages, not because it wasn't good, but because I was so terrified it wasn't going to end well. BUT IT TOTALLY DID! I've been so very disappointed in most of the series finales I've read recently, but this one was top notch.

Of course I cried. The second to last and last chapter I was balling like a baby, epic sobs almost to be the point where I had to stop reading; but luckily, I was eventually able to reel it in and make it through. Cassandra Clare just added a plot twist that I would have never guessed in my entire life and it tore my soul in two. So incredible.

And DAMN! She knows how to write a hell of a good epilogue.

In the end, all I can say is that I'm so excited to read all of the Shadowhunter series she plans to write.

My Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
