When I had originally read the description of this novel, it didn't sound too interesting to me. Then I kept on seeing all these rave reviews from people I'm friends with on Goodreads and I decided to check it out.

And boy, I'm glad I did.

Don't Look Back is a YA thriller about a girl named Sam who comes to, injured and bleeding, with no memories whatsoever about the life she's lived for seventeen years. Nothing. And to top it off, though she's back after missing for several days, her best friend Cassie is still no where to be found. But as Sam merges back into the existence she had before lost her memories, she realizes what a bitch she was to everyone, how cruel her "friends" are, and how her boyfriend Del the Dick is the opposite of what a good boyfriend/person should be. And she wants no part of the life she had before she got this fresh start. Except on thing: she feels obligated to remember and help discover what happened to Cassie.

Sam slowly, in sudden, triggered memories and hallucinations begins to put together what went down the night the two of them went missing. And how it all comes to be will shock the hell out of you.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, exciting and pretty damn sexy. The love interest, Carson, is a totally perfect YA boy; immensely charming, kind and has the whole "Latin lover" vibe (yes, a character in the book says that about him). And like I said before, I didn't see the ending unfurling like that. I had some theories, which part of turned out to be true, but the grand conclusion wasn't what I had inferred at all.

I also really liked Sam. Well, new and improved Sam; pre-accident Sam sounded like a real piece of work. She was relatable and funny and I felt really sympathetic towards her. She reminded me a lot of Mara Dyer in the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin, probably because the two books have the psycholical thriller, everyone-thinks-I'm-going-crazy shtick in common.

Reading Don't Look Back has definitely convinced me to try out more books by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

My Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★
