Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors

1. Melina Marchetta

When I first read Jellicoe Road, I felt like my life would never be the same. In the best way possible. It was moving and heartbreaking and wonderful. I knew that I had to read everything by Melina Marchetta right then, and I did. Each one is spectacular. She has a beautiful gift of writing characters better than anyone else in the world, no matter the circumstances they are in. And I can't wait to read everything else she writes.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
JELLICOE ROAD, THE PIPER'S SON AND FROI OF THE EXILES

2. John Green

I've been in love with John Green's writing since 2007. I read Looking for Alaska during a car ride to my Grandparent's house. And I sobbed in the backseat, with zero shame. From that moment, it became my favorite book--and it still is to this day. John Green continues to publish fantastic novels about unassuming characters, and each one is magnificent in their own way. Plus, besides the fact that John Green is an amazing author, he's a great human being, too. He's goofy and smart and relatable. And he knows how to break your heart in 320 pages.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
LOOKING FOR ALASKA, AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES AND THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

3. Suzanne Collins

I love The Hungers Games more than I could even explain. It's enthralling and moving and tragic. I love every single second of it. Suzanne Collins created a world that was so unique and captivating, and I find myself going back to it whenever I can. It's addicting. Her characters are so independent and broken. And Peeta Mellark is, and will always be, my biggest fictional crush.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
CATCHING FIRE AND THE HUNGER GAMES

4. A.S. King

It's been almost two years since I discovered A.S. King, but it feels like I've been in love with her novels for years. They are the kind of books that stick with you; that bury into your heart and plant themselves there. Books that grow and change with time, and multiple readings. They are noble, funny, heart-breaking stories about teens struggling to find themselves in a world that tells them that they are wrong to even try. She writes teenagers better than any other YA author, and I love getting lost in their worlds.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ AND GLORY O'BRIEN'S HISTORY OF THE FUTURE

5. Cassandra Clare

I've been addicted to Cassandra Clare's books for so long. They are fun and interesting and action-packed. But above all, they are hilarious. Her characters are witty and sarcastic and full of magnificent pop culture references. It's a damn delight to read. And the one thing Cassandra Clare can do that no one else can: a successful love triangle. She created three people that loved each other equally, and I fell for both all of them as well. She just creates worlds that feel so real. I wished I lived in them.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
CITY OF BONES, CITY OF GLASS AND CLOCKWORK PRINCESS

6. Rainbow Rowell

I'm infatuated with Rainbow Rowell and her writing. It's fantastic. It's well-crafted and beautiful, without being over the top. She writes character that are both relatable and inspiring, and very real. She has a talent for building complicated relationships between characters and watching them take flight and solve their problems. I love it.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
FANGIRL AND LANDLINE

7. J.K. Rowling

This is a no-brainer. J.K. Rowling is my hero. She wrote the best series that has ever been written, and probably will ever be written. I grew up with it; I still read it. It's timeless and wonderful. It's more than just a book series; it's a part of my personality. I owe J.K. Rowling more than I could ever put into words.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS AND HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE

8. Jenny Torres Sanchez

Jenny Torres Sanchez is so unknown, but she is so unprecedented and remarkable. Her stories are unforgettable, and so are her characters. They are books that I will read over and over again for the rest of my life, because I will continue to learn from them. They are smart and funny and just painful to read--in the best way possible.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
THE DOWNSIDE OF BEING CHARLIE AND DEATH, DICKINSON, AND THE DEMENTED LIFE OF FRENCHIE GARCIA

9. S.E. Hinton

The Outsiders was the book that got me hooked on reading. I read a nice amount as a kid, especially with my family, but The Outsiders pushed me to become the obsessive reader I am today. It's tragic and real and the first book that really made me question my life and my choices. It pushed me to want to help others and taught me to never judge another's situation. And all of her books are like that; they are so moving and groundbreaking. She's a true hero.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
THE OUTSIDERS, TAMING THE STAR RUNNER AND TEX

10. Stephanie Perkins

No one writes a YA romance like Stephanie Perkins. But what makes them so great are the characters that are falling in love; they are smart and funny and nerdy. They are their own person, and they are just trying to find out where they belong. And, of course, the romance is adorable. I can't count the number of times I've squealed while reading her books.

FAVORITE NOVELS:
ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS AND LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR

  1. Great list! I loved JELLICOE ROAD and TFIOS, but weirdly, I haven't read anything else by Marchetta or Green. Strange. I also love Clare, Rowling and Collins. I need to give King a go.

    Happy TTT!
