Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

I loved Illuminae. Like, looooooooved it. I thought it was unique and hilarious, and it made me feel like a kid again. I used to love epistolary novels growing up, when I was first learning to read more complicated books, and I forgot how enjoyable they are. Illuminae brought me back to that time and that feeling. But also, the plot was captivating and the characters were relatable and authentic. Erza is swoonworthy as hell.

But I thought the beginning of Gemina was really lackluster. Maybe it was my high expectations getting in the way, but I wasn't as invested in the story. I didn't enjoy Nik and Hanna as much as Ezra and Kady; I didn't think they were as dynamic or funny. Especially, Hanna. She felt a little stilted. I still enjoyed it, but it was on its way to being a 3 star read.

But around the 60% point, I was HOOKED. It got a lot more interesting, and my shipper heart started to pound--which is always good. Hanna became this strong, ass-whooping heroine and Nik continued to be a snarky, misunderstood boy with a dark past. It became this true science fiction novel, with space and time travel. I was fully into it. And it blew my mind until the end.

I cannot wait to see how this whole shebang ends. And please, book gods, let there be more Ezra in Obsidio. I need more of that sarcastic bastard in my life.
