The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

I had very high hopes for this book, and though it wasn't as awesome as I thought it was going to be, it was still pretty good.

Magnus Bane is probably one of my favorite characters in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices--and not just because I ship Malec. He's hilarious and magnificent and essential to the story. But it was obvious in these stories that they were not written by just Cassandra Clare, because something was missing. The snark was dimmed and the writing was a tad lacking. I wish that they had been written only by her. It would have been more authentic.

Here are my ratings for each story:

What Really Happened in Peru: 3/5 Stars Funny, but it still didn't really explain why he was banned from Peru fully. Maybe it should have been about that.

The Runaway Queen: 4/5 Stars I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun play on history, and plus, I've always had a fascination with Marie Antoinette.

Vampires, Scones, and Edmund Herondale: 4.5/5 Stars As to be expected, the stories that related to characters in the other novels were the best. This one was fun because you got to know Will's parents, and they had an adorable meet-cute.

The Midnight Heir: 5/5 Stars This one was my favorite, by far. I think Will and Tessa or Will and Jem are my favorite ships in Cassandra Clare's books. They are just so perfect. So I loved seeing them again, and see that their love was still story so many years later.

The Rise of Hotel Dumort: 2/5 Stars This one was my least favorite. It was just okay. Nothing to complain about but pretty forgettable.

Saving Raphael Santiago: 3/5 Stars It fun to see the birth of Raphael Santiago, and why he's a pretty interesting and trustworthy vampire.

The Fall of Hotel Dumort: 3/5 Stars This one was interesting, because you never would have assumed that cocaine would have an effect on vampires. But still, not exactly life-changing.

What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You're Not Officially Dating Anyway: 4/5 Stars The end scene was so cute, and the rest of it was amusing.

The Last Stand of the New York Institute: 3.5/5 Stars The last scene were we got to see Jocelyn bring Clary to Magnus and Tessa for the first time was the best. The rest of it was fine.

The Course of True Love (And First Dates): 4.5/5 Stars Adorable. Malec is so freaking cute it's insane.

The Voicemail of Magnus Bane: 4/5 Stars Short and hilarious. Never would have expected this story, but it was fun.

If you like Cassandra Clare, this is one to check out. And I know there are a lot of haters out there that think she needs to stop beating a dead horse or getting money where ever she can--but they can shut the hell up. Cassandra Clare is awesome, and they need to stop being dicks.
